Our Story

The story of Pikey Sewa Kendra goes back to our childhood in Loding, when the annual Sang Puja was a vibrant tradition we eagerly looked forward to every year between February and March. Back then, it was organized by our parents and elders, while we as teenagers simply enjoyed the festive atmosphere, unity, and deep cultural spirit of the gathering. Over time, however, as our elders grew older and the village youth moved away to cities and overseas for opportunities, the local population dropped significantly, and this cherished annual tradition was eventually put on hold for several years.

When we first discussed reviving the Sang Puja to maintain community harmony and inspire villagers abroad to stay connected to their motherland, we realized we needed a basic shelter to protect against unpredictable mountain weather. That small shelter idea evolved into forming a registered social organization, and eventually, planning a modest community house.

Working alongside engineers, we quickly realized that constructing a standalone building would be far more costly than anticipated. Given our predominantly Buddhist community, we found a practical and culturally meaningful solution: why not build a small monastery directly on top of the community social house using the same structural pillars? This combined approach allowed us to create a functional basement for social gatherings, educational programs, and village events, with a peaceful monastery upstairs for prayers and rituals. To support these activities, we later added a dedicated kitchen building.

Getting to this stage has been a true community and national effort. We are deeply grateful for the substantial funding and support provided by the Government of Nepal—including the Solududhkunda Municipality, Koshi Province government, and the central government. This public backing, combined with generous donations from our central committee members, trustees, friends, and family, has brought our infrastructure to about 70% completion.

We still have a significant amount of work ahead of us. Beyond finishing the remaining construction, our priority is establishing a sustainable long-term fund to maintain these structures. We pledge complete transparency and accountability for every contribution entrusted to us.

Looking forward, we envision developing Pikey Sewa Kendra into a Buddhist meditation center and library. By creating these community anchors, we hope to encourage villagers living away to eventually return after retirement, reconnect with their roots, and contribute meaningfully to the society that raised them.
